Bible in 365 Days – Day 188

DAY 188.png

Focus Chapters:

  • Psalms 92-97

Standout Verse(s):

Psalms 94:18-‬19 NLT

I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O Lord , supported me. When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.

Observation (s):

  1. The psalmist cried to the Lord when he begun to fall untentionally before the wicked. Due to His unfailing love, God supported him.

I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O Lord , supported me. When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.

  2. God’s offer of comfort restored the psalmist’s hope and cheer, overcoming the doubts that filled the psalmist’s mind.

I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O Lord , supported me. When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.

Application:

Slip is defined as unintentionally losing one’s footing. The psalmist unintentionally lost his footing as wicked and evildoers tried to overcome him. Similarly, we often unintentionally lose our footing as we navigate the negativity, wickedness and evildoers of our lives. The good news is that God is a constant support that will keep us standing despite the dark winds that try to blow us over. He, as our support, is willing to bear our weight and keep us upright.

I once experienced a stormy season in which I felt like all hope was lost. I felt downtrodden and beaten. Like the psalmist, my mind was riddled with doubts. There was nothing else I could do. For me, an independent person, this was a hard pill to swallow. In the midst of my despair, backed into a corner and overwhelmed, I cried out to God. And do you know what? He heard and supported me. As I stood in a corner, crying my eyes out heart, I felt a pair of arms wrap around me and I felt an overwhelming peace spreading through my soul for the first time in weeks. I was filled with hope and cheer, although the situation was not fully resolved. God restored me for the next few rounds and eventually I, through God’s protection and strength, overcame.

In seasons like that, it is hard to not acknowledge that my redeemer liveth. One thing is certain! God is a constant support when dark seasons try to weigh us down. As the songwriter says, “In sorrow, He is my comfort. In trouble, He is my stay. He tells me, every care on Him to roll…”

Bible in 365 Days – Day 138

DAY 138.png

Focus Chapters:

  • Psalms 75-78

Standout Verse(s):

Psalms 78:18-32 NLT

They stubbornly tested God in their hearts,
    demanding the foods they craved.
They even spoke against God himself, saying,
“God can’t give us food in the wilderness.
Yes, he can strike a rock so water gushes out,
but he can’t give his people bread and meat.”
When the Lord heard them, he was furious.
The fire of his wrath burned against Jacob.
Yes, his anger rose against Israel,
for they did not believe God
or trust him to care for them.
But he commanded the skies to open;
he opened the doors of heaven.
He rained down manna for them to eat;
he gave them bread from heaven.
They ate the food of angels!
God gave them all they could hold.
He released the east wind in the heavens
and guided the south wind by his mighty power.
He rained down meat as thick as dust—
birds as plentiful as the sand on the seashore!
He caused the birds to fall within their camp
    and all around their tents.
The people ate their fill.
He gave them what they craved.
But before they satisfied their craving,
while the meat was yet in their mouths,
the anger of God rose against them,
and he killed their strongest men.
He struck down the finest of Israel’s young men.

But in spite of this, the people kept sinning.
Despite his wonders, they refused to trust him.

Observation (s):

  1. The Israelites allowed their earthly wants to cause them to test God and challenge His ability to provide them with basis necessities.

They stubbornly tested God in their hearts,
        demanding the foods they craved.
They even spoke against God himself, saying,
“God can’t give us food in the wilderness.
Yes, he can strike a rock so water gushes out,
but he can’t give his people bread and meat.”

  2. God’s anger rose because of the Israelites’ inability to trust that He could provide for them, despite all the provisions and cares He had already made for them.

When the Lord heard them, he was furious.
The fire of his wrath burned against Jacob.
Yes, his anger rose against Israel,
for they did not believe God
or trust him to care for them.

  3. Despite God proving them wrong (by supplying their wants), and punishing them as a remembrance, the Israelites continue to distrust God’s ability to care for them.

Application:

Subjects trust their kings to take care of them. Citizens trust their rulers to act in their best interests. Toddlers and children place faith in their parents, trusting them to care for them. Yet we find it hard to trust that God, our Heavenly Father, can do the same, even better.

Are you like the Israelites? No matter how many times God has proven Himself to you, you still fail to trust Him? You still choose to test Him, citing your belief that He is incapable of accomplishing feats that are “impossible” from your perspective, challenging His ability to provide for you.

Don’t make the same mistakes of the Israelites and be destroyed for it. Don’t let your unbelief be the reason God makes an example of you. Think back on your days past. God has been there with you. Hasn’t He proven that He can care for you. No matter how impossible it seems, trust that God can care for you.

God is interested

I always find it so amazing when God pays attention to the little things in my life. It makes me realize just how much He cares about His relationship with us! Can you just imagine it? Having someone who listens to all your thoughts and worries and acts on them? It is incredible!

A few mornings ago, I got in a taxi. I didn’t pay much attention to who was inside because the taxi-stand was packed and I was more focused on getting to work on time.

When the taxi pulled away it took me a while to take stock of who I was commuting with. When the thought surfaced, I realized I was in a taxi with four men! The driver and three other male passengers! To make matters worse, I happened to be in the middle of the backseat.

Now I’m not the panicky sort but the moment the realization hit me, I grew uncomfortable. The thought, hoping for another female passenger flit through my mind. About 10 seconds later, the taxi stopped. The male in the front passenger seat got off and a female passenger got on.

Amused, I found myself asking the Lord if He couldn’t have let me complete the thought. To this He replied, “Well you asked.”

Isn’t God incredible! It was so great to be reminded that He cares about the little nitty-gritties of my life. When I’m sad, He is there! When I’m anxious, He is a constant presence!

My Daddy is ALWAYS INTERESTED!

XOXO,
Chañel.

God truly UNDERSTANDS

image

This post is kind of a continuation of my last post. Last night, during the discussion, my friend said something that I found myself musing about. She said, “God understands everything that we experience.” I didn’t think much about that statement when it was made because at that point I kept thinking about how lonely I felt and how people always seemed to want something from me but never truly need me.
