Shut Up and Act!

“Talk is CHEAP” is something my mentor used to tell me constantly. Actions have always spoken louder than words. In fact, if you think about it, the man generally feared is the one who metes out the judgement barely promised. He is the one who generally is considered deadly because his actions line up with his words.

When I was a child, I loved but feared my father. He wasn’t a man who spoke a lot. He would perhaps give a warning look or speak once in a calm voice if I was misbehaving. This was the total opposite of my mom who talked, threatened and warned a lot. My dad was the greater fear because he was the unknown force whose talk meant something.

When you do a lot of talking about your dreams and carry out no actions towards fulfilling them, you are like the little mongrel dog with a lot of noise and no bite. He will make a lot of noise when you approach his  gate but the moment you open it or raise your hand is the moment he takes off. Are you always just talking about your dreams? Where is the action towards fulfilling them? Do you run from or start to make excuses why you can’t take a presented opportunity? It is past time you move to the biting stage. The gates have been open, surely you don’t need God or anyone to push you through. You can reach you goals. It is time YOU STOP TALK THE TALK AND WALK THE TALK.image

A Contemplation Upon Ants – Move With Purpose

It is often strange, the things you can be inspired by. I had the opportunity to observe some ants the other day and they, God bless their little hearts, reminded me of the importance of living and moving with purpose.
It was a windy, sunny, spring Saturday morning in Jamaica yet while many humans remained in bed, these ants were busy at work. I can only imagine what I would have seemed like to them. Perhaps a giant who had the power to crush them without a care but yet still they moved with purpose.

Their nest was to the east, the wind blew in the opposite direction. Ant after ant moved in every direction in their search for food. Then, despite the strong wind, they struggled home. When the wind became too much, they band together and made it home. They even employed this method when the load found was too heavy for one. They never slowed their pace.

It All Begins With A Dream

My friend and I were joking around and my comment “keep dreaming” was met by the retort “that’s where it all begins”. This in itself proved to be a powerful thought as Shane felt the need to point out *thanks Shane* :).

Dreaming is very important because it gives us something to work towards achieving. Growing up I’ve always heard of the all-American dream – the house with the white picket fence, the husband/wife, the dog and the 2.0 kids.

Many of us keep our eyes on that dream and work our asses off to accomplish it. While this might not be the combination for everyone, I find that we tend to have variations. For example, while my end goal professionally to become an exceptional UX Designer, my personal end goal is to own my own home and perhaps get married and have a child.

Now whilst dreaming, it is important to know that not at all times will things go according to plans.
